The Elves (Die elfen) is a fantastic story by the German writer Johann Ludwig Tieck, published in the 1812 collection of short stories: Phantasus. The Elves tells us the story of Mary, who visits the land of the elves for just one day. Upon returning, the girl discovers that her stay in the country of the elves translates into seven years in the world of men. Ludwig Tieck explores here a kind of coexistence between men and elves. In fact, the latter are taken by gypsies and vagabonds due to the rags they wear.
