At the Mountains of Madness is a novel by American writer H. P. Lovecraft, first published in 1936. The story follows an expedition of geologists and scientists to the Antarctic, where they discover the remains of an ancient, highly advanced civilization. As they explore the ruins, they uncover evidence of a horrific and long-forgotten history, including the existence of monstrous beings that once ruled the Earth. As the expedition progresses, the scientists are confronted with terrifying creatures and otherworldly phenomena that challenge their understanding of the universe and their place in it. They soon realize that the civilization they have uncovered is not as dead as they thought, and that they may have unleashed a horror beyond their wildest nightmares.
