After graduating from Pretoria University in 1993 I started at Hunt Lascaris TBWA Johannesburg in 1994 as Assistant Art Director, then moved on as Art Director to Saatchi’s Cape Town and Leo Burnett Johannesburg. Then I worked as Designer at Nicework in London, UK for 2 years. Upon returning to Johannesburg I worked as Designer at Baker Street Advertising for 3 years and then spent 5 years as Creative Director of Scharrer Advertising and then started my own company, Magnet Design and Advertising in 2006. Since then I have been doing graphic design and art direction for SMEs and advertising agencies in Johannesburg and Cape Town. In 2016 I changed the name to Open imagination. Previous accounts I worked on include: BBC London, Prince Charles Cinemas London, 3i Europe, MTN, Cell C, Absa Bank, Liberty Life, Arwa pantihose, Nimue Skincare, VISA, Coca Cola, South African Post Office, Sunday Times and The Times. I love thinking up new ideas and making them great. To me concept is key and everything else flows from there. without a stong concept, even the most beautiful advert is meaningless. I’m inspired by openness, originality, simplicity, inclusivity and honesty. We create reality every day so being creative has to be done with freedom and courage, but also with responsibility.
